September 25, 2008 marked a significant event in our town's history as Licab and Makati formally became Sister Towns via a Memorandum of Agreement signed by the City of Makati's local officials headed by Mayor Jejomar Binay and our very own local leaders headed by Mayor Willy Domingo.
The activities started with our customary "Parada sa Kariton" event, where Mayor Binay, Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado, the City Council, together with our Municipal leaders proceeded to the Liwasang Dalmacio while riding the Cariton, where they conducted a wreathlaying ceremony on the monument of Don Dalmacio Esguerra, founder of Licab, and our National Hero, Dr. Jose rizal. The group conducted an executive meeting at the Office of the Municipal Mayor, after which, the group proceeded to the Municipal gym where an Audio visual presentation about Makati and Licab has been presented. In a Memorandum of Agreement signed by the local officials, witnessed by thousands of Licabeños from 11 barangays, a pact, a sisterhood was declared. Mayor Binay stressed that small towns such as Licab have a special place in his heart, and that is why they would like to share their expertise and experience in governance. Mayor Domingo, in his speech, said that we, Licabeños expect to learn from Makati City's system of governance, policies and programs that we can adopt and implement in our hometown. Since then, Makati City has always extended her hands to Licab. Patients are being referred and accepted in Ospital ng Makati and Mayor Binay offered 10 slots of scholarships in University of Makati. Last May 10 2009, Mayor Binay donated a yellow multicab to their Sistertown. As affiliates, Makati has since been a blessing in our town. We are looking forward to being, just like Makati, renowned as a progressive town in the coming days.
